The Testimony of Asher Moissis
The Escape of the Rabbi in 1943

Follow a moving route based on the true testimony of Asher Moissis, who in 1943 organized the smuggling of Rabbi Elias Barzilai out of the SS headquarters on Merlin Street through a staged abduction in the center of Athens. Thanks to the Rabbi’s courage and silence, he never revealed the names of Athens’ Jews, helping to save thousands of lives. This walk takes you through the very streets where these events unfolded – streets that still carry the weight of memory, history, and resistance.
