The monument was erected in 2016 by the Jewish Community of Athens and Thessaloniki, in collaboration with Yad Vashem.

It bears the names, in alphabetical order, of the Greek Righteous Among the Nations, i.e. Christians who saved Jews during the Holocaust without personal gain. Among them are prominent figures such as Princess Alice of Greece, but also ordinary citizens who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens.
